The book is a fiction. An important marketing corporation operates impudently to sell its products and services with little consideration to people’s culture, beliefs, taboos etc. Its greed for higher profits has motivated it to adopt unscrupulous acts. For this purpose, staff are drilled not to be bothered about the ethical side of the business, but to focus primarily on improving sales. The corporation also developed artificial intelligence (AI) to do just that, and accorded operational prominence to AI operated machines than the staff, who were made simple subordinates of the machines. In search of increased income, the corporation entertained an unspeakable undertaking, i.e., to enter into the brains of two young individuals, using a newly discovered brain-reading technology. With this technology it launched a market research by scanning the brain, with a view to learning which products and services will be preferred most by consumers. This unwarranted invasion of the human brain triggered an uproar by the public.
The people’s outrage was motivated by the empowerment that the technology provides to individuals and corporations to design unique mind control systems for exploitative finanacial and political purposes. Presumed damages by AI technology were recorded, and activists alerted the citizenry and policy makers about the impemnding risks to humas, and pushed for the regulation of its development. The mounting public pressure convinced poliicy makers to eventually adopt resolutions to regulate AI development, thereby avoiding all the dreadful things predicted to happen by a wild AI development. The mind reading exercise has had a negative effect on society as it brought with it unprecedented legal and social problems. Undesirable episodes created by AI are also presented and discussed.
