From giving a bath to his grandmother’s carabao in the gentle rivers in Pavia, Iloilo, to providing logistical supports for and helping maintain ships and aircraft carriers that cross the world’s intimidating seas and oceans, Retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Ernesto “Ernie” Selorio’s story is not a story of overnight success. It is a story of countless times of taking chances, failures and mistakes, taking up courage, perseverance, faith, and hard work. His story also proves the importance of believing in oneself and loving one’s work, valuing the experiences and skills one gains from it. Ernie’s story is not just his story as a Filipino in the U.S. Navy, it is also a story, in whole or in part, of every Filipino who is or who has been in the U.S. Navy, of those who aspire to be there, and most of all, of those who dream and work hard for it.
