A Loving Memoir of a Throwaway Dog

Never did we think that the cute little puppy we carried home from the Arizona Humane Society would have such an impact on our lives.

This is Chase’s memoir yet told through me as his interpreter. Strange? Most would say so. Therefore, I ‘ve provided an excerpt to help clarify our venture.

Dad and I were sitting on a bale of hay in the barn while he sipped a cup of his morning coffee. He glanced at me. “You’ve had a lifetime of interesting experiences. “He took another sip and draped an arm around my shoulder. “You should share your adventures with others. Write a book. I can help you.”

Dad and I had this special spark where we had a two-way communication. I’d think something and as if he could read my mind, he’d respond.

I understand the human language as do many canines. But we have selective hearing, just like most human spouses. We pick and choose what we want to hear and act accordingly.

“Okay,” I told Dad.” But since I can’t spell you have to do all the writing.”
He smiled and hugged me. “Sounds like we have a deal.”
For us the embrace was like writing our signatures in blood.
